ISSN vs ISBN

So, in a previous blog, we explained how an ISBN is your book’s social security number. The International Standard Book Number is assigned to each version of a book. For example, if you but your book out as a paperback and a hardcover, each of those versions has its own ISBN (like paternal twins).

If you aren’t familiar, check the blog post out.

An ISSN is an International Standard Series Number. This is the umbrella number that is used to identify a serial publication. Serial publications are newspapers, magazines, journals, periodicals, etc. Although each issue will have its own identifiers, the ISSN will not change.

ISSNs are not for fictional series, sequels, or trilogies. Those still follow the ISBN rule.
